There are many ways to celebrate a vegetarian Valentine's Day in Salt Lake City this year. Let's start with dessert! :)
There are TWO vegan options for chocolate this year. TWO! Debbie and Nathan Larson from Velo City Bags will be making vegan chocolates this year to support their small business. Here are the details from the Facebook event page:
Chocolates are all vegan and gluten-free and come in two different package options, including:
Peanut butter and caramel package:
*5 peanut butter cups
*2 peanut butter cups
*2 mint creams
*2 orange creams
$12 per package or $20 for both (or two of the same)
Orders need to be in and paid for by February 7. Sooner would be really helpful, though. To place your order you need to email me and I will email you back with a Paypal payment request. Credit cards can also be used on Paypal.
Email me with your order and I will send the request for the appropriate amount.
Pick up will be on Thursday, February 13. Location to be determined. I will let you know the pick up location as soon as possible.

And secondly, there is the annual fundraiser for Ching Farm Sanctuary. I bought these last year and they were amazing. Here's the info from the Facebook event page:
Whoa, get vegan Valentines chocolates for that special someone (or yourself, I won't judge) AND support a local non profit animal rescue? Yes please!
All proceeds go to feeding and providing medical care to the animals in need at Ching Farm Rescue and Sanctuary.
These artesian chocolates will be handmade by locals Alyssa and Dani Frisk. The chocolate we will be using is a fine Belgian chocolate with 53% cocoa, and the white chocolate will be handmade.
We are going to have 3 different packages, $15 each or get all 3 for 35!!

The chocolates will be packaged in cute boxes, ready to be given as a gift or enjoyed at your leisure. They will also be labeled so you know what deliciousness you are about to eat!
The pick up place will be at Frisch's new location on 1300 s and State Street which they will be moving to in February. It is in the same strip mall as House of Tibet. The pick up time will be at 6:00 pm until 8 pm when they close.
We will be accepting cash, check, or credit card a the time of pick up.
Since Cakewalk Baking Company is moving to their new location, they won't be doing their usual Valentine's Day box. But don't worry, they'll be offering cute cookies and will be taking orders. Here's Kelly's Facebook page update:
Because we are so busy with the move we have decided to not to Valentine's boxes this year... but we ARE accepting special orders for anything on our menu. Cheesecakes, Cakes, Cupcakes, Dillos, Eclairs, Cupcakes, Cookies, etc. If I get really crazy this week I might work out a cookie bouquet option for those interested... we can also do a giant cookie with a message on it. Okay. Now time to talk about fancy Valentine's Day dinners. There are quite a few options throughout Salt Lake City, but here the ones that have popped up on my food radar.
The premier vegan Valentine's Day event is the benefit dinner for Ching Farm Sanctuary. Here's a sample of what they'll be offering this year:
Five course gourmet vegan dinner.
$45 per person; singles, couples, or groups welcome.
The menu will be prepared by Ching Sanctuary's renowned vegan chefs Larayn Clegg and Jordan Toland.

Beet root ravioli with pistachio ricotta
Vichyssoise with creme fraiche and fresh chive

Faustina is also looking pretty good. Faustina's new Chef de Cuisine Joe Kemp has been busy in the kitchen with love on his mind! He has created a special $50 four-course menu to tantalize the senses for Valentine's Day, Friday, Feb. 14. Suggested wine pairings in 2 oz. flights are available for an additional cost of $20. Caffe Niche on 300 South is offering a special five-course $50 Valentine's tasting menu. "I wanted to create an intimate menu that reflects our close associations with local farms and ranches," said Executive Chef Ethan Lappé. "It's a great way for us to celebrate our love for our local producers in a meaningful way." The cost is $50 per person and reservations will be taken between 5 and 9:30 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 801-433-3380 or on the website www.caffeniche.com.

fig and Point Reyes blue cheese tart with sherry vinaigrette reduction
lentil soup: organic lentils with roasted vegetables puréed and topped with roasted tomatoes and red wine reduction
goat cheese and black truffle pillow: custard made with goat cheese and fresh black truffles wrapped in puff pastry
butternut squash lasagna: Italian béchamel, Bloomsdale spinach, tomato, pine nut vegetarian ‘sausage’ and herbed ricotta
